On the social side, the Juristen
Ball was cancelled because of the
Gulf War but we were otherwise
entertained royally. We attended a
Heu r i ger ( w i n es even i ng) at
Fuhrgassl-Huber on Thursday even-
ing. We attended receptions given
by the Federal Chancellor of the
Republic of Austria, Dr. Franz
Vranitzky, and the Federal President
of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Kurt
Waldheim, at the Imperial Palace. A
ceremonial banquet was given by
t he Mayor of V i enna in t he
Pallavicini Palace instead of the
Juristen Ball. We were also taken
for a guided tour of the Mozart
Exhibition.
Vienna is truly at the historical
and cultural centre of Europe and
through this annual meeting of
Presidents has taken on a central
role for the legal professions in
times of profound political and
economic change.
