This Bill provides for t he

increases from July in the rates of

social we l f a re paymen ts an-

nounced in the Budget and for

other connected matters, amends

and extends the

Social Welfare

Acts, 1981 to 1990,

the

Pensions

Act, 1990,

S.69 of the

Health Act,

1970 and S. 285 (2) of the

Companies Act, 1963.

Competition

Bill, 1991,

(with

explanatory memo).

The primary purpose of this Bill

is to prohibit anti-competitive

practices and agreements and the

abuse of dominant positions in the

market. These provisions are based

on Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty

of Rome and will apply to all

april 1991

undertakings in the State engaged

in trade in goods and services.

Liability for Defective Products Bill,

1991 (with explanatory memo).

The purpose of this Bill is to give

effect to the provisions of Directive

No. 85/374/EEC of 25th July, 1985

of the Council of the European

Communities on the approximation

of the laws, regulations and

administrative provisions of the

Member States of the European

Communities concerning liability

for defective products. A copy of

the Directive is included as an

Annex to the Bill.
