Cl ancy 's eulogy.

" A n t o n i a O ' Ca l l a g h an w a s

called to t he Bar in 1977 having

achieved, in t he wo r ds of t he late

and es t eemed Mr. Jus t i ce J o hn

Kenny, miraculous results. She

had previously taken her primary

degrees, including an LL.B, in

University College, Galway, and

thereafter had t aught in Mallow,

Tralee, Limerick and finally in t he

Presentation Brothers College,

Bray, for a lmost six years.

She

teacher and it is quite under-

standable t h at her s t uden ts had

con t i nued to call on her at her

house in Killiney, literally in droves,

to seek her help and her guidance.

So many of t h em a t t ended her

funeral and are here today.

organisation hostels have been

f ounded, prisons are visited and

a h o s t of o t h e r w o r k s are

undertaken.

Wi th Breeda Ging, barrister, she

f ounded and ran for seven years,

w i t h great success, t he Dublin

School of Legal Studies.

Antonia was a lecturer at King's

Inns and she pe r f o rmed in t h is

role w i t h t he u l t ima te success of

her students as her only goal. She

regarded any failure as her res-

ponsibility, any ach i evement as

t h a t of t he s t uden t.

As a member of the Law Library

she was cons t an t ly surrounded

by younger membe rs w h o posed

que s t i on a f t er ques t i on. She

f ound t i me to answer t h em all

w i t h c omp e t e n ce and under-

standing. It is a sobering t h o u g ht

t hat her influence on her students

will be reflected in generations of

f u t u re lawyers. May she rest in

peace."
