considered essential. These lists apply only to the cocktails
known and served before the Noble Experiment was
launched, and not to "Fancy Potations and Otherwise," of
the same period, which have been divided, when possible,
into groups according to their general name, such as "Slings,"
"Sours," "Punches," and so on. Further on in the book will
be
found the best list, with formulas, of worth-while cock–
tails, punches and so on, such as Americans going to the
Tropics and elsewhere abroad have learned to know and
usually to esteem, particularly those based upon two of
the best known varieties of Rum produced in the West
Indies.
