When Can I Enroll?
You can sign up for benefits at any of the following times:
When you are first eligible to participate;
During the annual enrollment period;
Within 31 days of a qualified family status change.
If you do not enroll at the above times, you must wait for
the next annual enrollment period. Pre-existing condition
exclusions may apply to certain benefits.
Choosing Your Benefits
Some benefits – like Long Term Disability– are
automatic. You do not need to choose them because
Allegany College of Maryland pays the entire cost. You
must, however, actively choose any benefit for which you
pay.
Your part of the cost is automatically taken out of your
paycheck before your taxes are calculated (Medical,
Dental, Voluntary Life).
There is a definite advantage to paying for benefits with
before-tax money. Taking the money out before your
taxes are calculated lowers the amount of your pay that is
taxable. Therefore, you pay less in taxes.
