T is a tragic fact indeed but

cocktail mixing in the

United States is a lost art.

Since the advent of prohibition

experienced (and wise) bartend–

ers have left for sunnier climes,

leaving drink mixing in the

hands of ignorant speakeasy

proprietors and amateur home

mixers whose idea of a cocktail

is some orange juice and gin

thrown together in a shaker. Is it

' any wonder that stomach special–

ists have reaped a harvest when

they have not only poor liquors

but atrocious mixers both work–

ing for them? For this reason I

have dedicated my 1929 Edition
