Joining forces to make the
most of skills and expertise
It seems that wire 2014 in Düsseldorf has had a long-lasting effect on
a number of companies, with many announcing joint ventures
following the week-long exhibition.
Sikora and Maillefer (page 10) and Melos and Inhol (page 20) are just
two of those deals which have emerged since the show.
I was also privileged to be part of the unveiling ceremony of a new
rigid frame stranding machine from Shanghai HOSN on the first
morning of the exhibition, and details of this can be found on page 24.
Solar energy also features heavily in this issue with a 10 per cent
increase in solar investments in the first quarter of 2014, as noted in a
report from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (page 13).
This in addition to a college in Kolkata, India, developing a system of
generating electricity from anchored floating solar panels. The full
story can be found in our India Insight section on page 44.
It would be remiss not to mention the latest
technonogical advances heading into the market
with Zumbach launching a new three-axis lump
detector (page 35), and the launch of a new cable
for the railway market from Belden (page 38).
