Opinion : In

this case where the solicitor examines

the contract and approves of it on the purchaser's

behalf it is negotiated with the aid of the solicitor

even although the price has been agreed between

the parties and no changes are made in the draft

as submitted.

Delays in Government Departments.

THE Secretary submitted replies received to the

Society's letter to the heads of various Departments

asking for the time taken to deal with various

kinds of business when the papers are submitted by

a solicitor in order. It was decided to publish the

information received in the Society's GAZETTE. A

reply from the Estate Duty Office is awaited.

THE President of the Society for the year 1956-57

is Mr. Leonard I. G. Fox of Belfast. The Vice-

Presidents are Mr. Thomas Q. King, of Belfast,

and Mr. James Napier, of Belfast. The five extra

ordinary members of the Council of this Society

are: Messrs. Thomas Q. King, James J. Napier,

Charles MacLaughlin, James C. Taylor, with the

President.

SOUTHERN LAW ASSOCIATION.

THE Annual General Meeting of

A DINNER- DANCE was held on the 22nd November,

1956 in the Ballroom of the Shelbourne Hotel,

AT a meeting of the Council on November 22nd

the 14th October, 1957, was appointed as the final

date for receipt of nominations for the election of
