Deep lateral cervical group

• Deep cervical chain

:

along the internal jugular vein, often within

the facial layers of the carotid sheath.

- Jugulodigastric node = “sentinel”

- Virchow’s node =“signal”

• High, middle and low deep

cervical chain:

above, between and below the hyoid bone

and cricoid cartilage

• Drainage:

parotid, retropharyngeal and submental-

submandibular groups > the deep cervical

chain > the

subclavian

or

internal jugular

vein
