What attracted you to

Aquarius

?

GETHIN ANTHONY:

To be part of a

big show about LA in the sixties was

just a really exciting idea and, of course,

the challenge of playing Charles Manson

within a historical fiction was a really big

draw. I was really pleased to get the job

and jumped into it with two feet.

How did you react when you were

offered the part?

I was at a pub with a few friends

of mine when I got the call and I just

went outside and laid down in the

middle of the street. I was a little bit

overwhelmed. It came across to me that

it was a big challenge but one I really

wanted to go for, so it all just

felt incredibly exciting.

How did you prepare for the

role?

I had a few weeks,

which was a good amount

of time. There is so much

information out there about not only

Charles Manson but everyone who was

around him. The show’s creator, John

McNamara, sent the younger members

of the cast a kind of homework sheet

with books to read and music to listen

to in order to try to help us acclimatise

to the era. It was the most fun

homework I have ever been set. After

that, I tried to understand as much as I

could about Manson’s personal history

and his life. Then I had to learn to play

the guitar, which I have never done

before. It was quite a frantic few weeks

of trying to learn basic chords and

master strumming patterns.

How did you perfect Manson’s voice?

There was a particular clip that
