What can you tell us about

TheTraxedo

Edition

– the best-dressed box set ever

released?

Hamish BLAKE:

I’m just going off the top of

my head here, but nine shows, 13 discs, almost

30 hours of Hamish and Andy – and for the first

time ever, two bobbleheads! But, like I said, I’ll

have to fact check that.

Andy LEE:

It’s pretty much made for us.

HB:

Neither of us have a copy of our own

shows. We don’t have a copy of that special we

did a few years ago,

Learn India

, or any of the

“reminiscements” where it was all our different

bits and pieces we showed on

Rove

. Now,

finally, we’ve got a copy for ourselves that we

can put away and drag out and try and show our

children in 30 years time – if we can ever track

down a DVD player.

02/

What is it like to be immortalised as a

bobblehead?

AL:

It’s pretty special. We actually have it on

good authority that they’re voodoo bobbleheads.

HB:

Please be nice. Give us a head massage

if you get one.

AL:

Manipulate us any way you want.

HB:

These are our original bobbleheads

from the first series of Gap Year when were

in America, and we had them on the desk

and we took them around to a few different

places. I didn’t know the day we were doing the

bobbleheads that it was gonna be a full body

thing; like, you had to wear shoes, so Andy’s in

shoes and I’m in socks. They like 3D-photograph

you, and I just assumed that they would put

sneakers on me but they didn’t... They put you

up as you're photographed, so I had socks for

that whole series on my bobblehead. And then

this was our chance to fix it, and we forgot, so

we just sent the bobbleheads off to be redone

and I’m in socks again. I’m now the second

generation of bobblehead to remain shoeless.

03/

Hamish, what made you decide to give

away your Mr. NewYork State Bodybuilding

Championship trophy to the winner of the JB

Hi-Fi pre-order contest?

HB:

Once you hit the top...

AL:

He’s come on hard times...

HB:

...you realise that it’s not about the

trophy. Yeah, it was great to win, and I was top

of my game and undisputed champ back in 2011

‘cause I had the trophy, but I had to step aside

and make way for other amateur

bodybuilders who were also

keen to exploit the loophole by

being fatter than everyone else

in the contest.

04/

What can you tell us

about the inspirational note

that’s accompanying the

trophy? Can you give any hints

as to what might be on it?

HB:

I can’t quite yet. I mean

it’s really half the prize...

AL: I’

d say it’s three quarters...

HB

:

No, Ando – you’ve seen the

troph

y, it's solid bronze... looking. It’s

quite

ironic, really. You’re giving the

troph

y to a very strong guy, but you’ve

made

it light so they can lift it easier. But

yeah, the inspirational note will be heartfelt,

and it will help all junior amateur body athletes.

AL:

On the same theme of bodybuilding,

the trophy is painted bronze, and all the people

that we met when we were out the back there

at the bodybuilding contest in New York, they

were out there layering on fake tan, painting

themselves bronze. So the whitest guys in the

world came out looking very, very tanned.

HB:

The note will be bronze as well. I can give

that away. I can reveal, for the first time ever,

and this is an exclusive – the inspirational note

that accompanies the trophy will be bronze.

05/

Finally, where did the idea for GapYear

and Caravan of Courage come from? Did

you two just need a holiday and figured you

could probably get paid whilst you were

having fun?

AL:

That’s pretty much it.

HB:

I think you’ve got it, Leash.

AL:

It all stemmed from the caravan trips; that

all started from wanting to see Australia, our

backyard, first. Too many people we knew out of

uni were going overseas for a holiday, and we’re

like, “no one’s seen enough of Australia”, so

that was where it started. In the most remote

places are the best kinds of people, because

they have to make their own fun.
