EXTRAS

W

hen I was in Japan in April this year,

the place was abuzz with Super Saiyan

fever. Okay, maybe just the geeky

places like Akihabara and Ikebukuro, but there

was still undeniable excitement for the release

of

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'

, which is

out on DVD and Blu-ray this month. Seriously,

there was merchandise everywhere! Just ask

my bank account. Just when things seemed to

be somewhat peaceful for Goku and the gang,

Frieza is back with one final trick up his

dastardly sleeve: he has achieved yet another

'final' form.

One of the biggest hit series of recent years,

Tokyo Ghoul: Season 1

has something for

your average punter and mega-fan alike, with a

standard DVD edition, standard Blu-ray edition,

and a Limited Edition DVD & Blu-ray Combo

Pack. And for a couple of extra woolongs, a

special edition of the first season on DVD and

Blu-ray as well as postcards, a fabric banner

and an absolutely gorgeous art book.

Local releases of quality Japanese cinema

are sporadic at best, so the release of the

live-action adaptation of

Parasyte: Part 1

on

DVD and Blu-ray is worth getting excited about.

Not only that, the manga turned anime turned

live-action film has all of the action, comedy

and gore that you'd expect from this razor

sharp franchise.

One of my favourite recent series comes to

an end (for now) with the release of

Sword Art

Online 2 - Part 2

, and in spectacular fashion no

less. You could cheap out and grab the standard

DVD or Blu-ray edition, or prove your otaku cred

by grabbing the Limited Edition DVD or Blu-ray

which includes an art book and a limited edition

box to hold Part 1 and Part 2. Those parts won't

house themselves, friend.

As persistent a fan favourite as you're likely

to find,

Persona 4:The Golden Animation

Complete Series

hits DVD shelves in a flurry

of action, adventure and mystery – all of which

inexplicably seem to revolve around transfer

student Yu Narukami. Not just for fans of the

video game source material, this series also has

a brilliant soundtrack and gorgeous animation

by the always reliable A-1 Pictures.

All loved up and being in a meaningful

relationship should be all that's needed in life,

right? Wrong.

Love, Chunibyo

& Other Delusions - Heart

Throb (Season 2)

will

explain why, with

much lulz.

ANIME

ROUND-UP

Sure, we could ask Shenlong for

something worthwhile, like Mobile

Suits to assist in emergency

situations or even just to assist with

manual labour, or we could ask for

the real world creation of Sword Art

Online's Nerv Gear. Yep, forget all of

that helpful nonsense, what I want

is a headset which transports your

psyche into a massive multiplayer

online role playing game. Why?

Because I still have an infinitesimal

portion of my soul which hasn't

been given to Final Fantasy.

So that I'm not entirely self

involved, let's get Capsule Corp on

the phone and organise capsule

shelters which can literally pop into

existence from an item resembling

a Panadol. A duffle bag worth

of these things could provide

emergency accommodation for

people displaced by war or other

types of emergencies. See, I'm not

a total monster. However, it'd also

make camping much easier. I can

never figure out how to successfully

un-pop my pop-up tent.

Finally, let's get to work on

making cyber brains a thing.

Sure, it always seems to end in

tears in Ghost in the Shell, but I

feel as though this is the only way

that I'll ever manage to finish a

sudoku puzzle – by downloading the

answers into my brain.
