Analysis using DVHs

The main drawback of DVHs is the

loss of

spatial

information

that results from the

condensation of data when DVHs are calculated.

The parameters of volume and dose are useful,

but some questions remain unanswered:

Is an entire segment across the spinal cord being

irradiated or just an elongated segment on one

side?

In combined lung DVHs, is one lung receiving a

very high dose and the other very little dose, or

are both receiving equal dose?
