Anatomical Definition: Heart

Heart has four chambers: The atria are receiving areas that

pump blood into discharging chambers called the ventricles

Heart and the roots of the great vessels lie in the pericardium,

which is located in the middle mediastinum.

Heart has a base (posterior aspect), apex (inferolateral end),

three surfaces (sternocostal, diaphragmatic and pulmonary)

and four borders (right, inferior, left and superior)
