Wire & Cable ASIA – March/April 2007

Establishing a joint venture with Osaka

Diamond Industrial Co Ltd (ALMT

Corp) in 1998 has allowed Chyi Meei

to deliver cutting-edge solutions.

With highly stable manufacturing

technology, the product specification

is from the maximum 8mm to the finest

0.01mm. Chyi Meei is also an ISO9002

certified company, which deploy

quality assurance to deliver advanced

solutions.

Chyi Meei continually strives to meet

customer demand and has clients

in the wire electronic industry, semi-

conductor, electronic devices and

automobile to optoelectronic, optical

products and medical apparatus

businesses.

The products include natural diamond

dies, polycrystalline (or sintered)

diamond dies, shaped wire-drawing

diamond dies, guiding dies, PVF

dies, tin-coated copper dies, point

dies, diamond wheel, diamond ultra

precision cutting (UPC) and diamond

rotary dressers.

Go on, make the switch

By the mid-1970s it took a long time

and a lot of effort convincing wire

drawers to switch from inexpensive

tungsten carbide dies to the new

PCD dies. Even some of the diameter

ranges traditionally covered by natural

diamond dies were quickly replaced

by PCD dies, particularly the bigger

sizes where, beside a clear price

advantage, better performance soon

convinced the users to adopt the new

material.

PCD blanks have considerably

evolved and improved throughout

the years and there are now a wide

variety available in the market with

different dimensions, grain structures,

supported or unsupported by a metal

ring, thermally stable at temperatures

up to 1,200ºC, round blanks, square

and hexagonal.

However, when large bore size

diameters are involved, which is

synonymous of inclusion in the budget

for an expensive die, users are still

reluctant to switch from tungsten

carbide dies to PCD.

PCD dies have opened a new world

of possibilities for the wire and

cable industry. A constant and

steady production, maintaining strict

tolerances and excellent superficial

quality for much longer, are the most

important facts that are positively

considered by potential users.

A clear example is now the increased

application of ‘XXL’ PCD dies for cable

stranding and compacting. Three well-

known main PCD blank manufacturers

cover all possible diameters involved

from the small-medium sizes up to the

spectacular >ø 33.00mm.

At Temsa-Diamond, the technical

department develops and designs the

most suitable die geometry for cable

stranding and compacting, supported

by an accurate execution and perfect

final mirror polishing, thus ensuring the

expected dimensional exactness, long

die life and satisfactory performance.
