CLASS REPS: Nicolette Carnella, Rachelle Li and
Roslyn McCall
Danielle Harrs
is in her third year of the commerce
program at Queen’s University, where she has become
involved with an investment club called Queen’s Capital.
She is a member of the varsity squash team and they have
been OUA champions for the past three years. Danielle
is majoring in finance and is starting her internship in
investment banking this summer. Currently, she is on
exchange in Madrid attending classes during the week and
travelling around Europe on the weekends ‒ her favourite
city so far has been Barcelona!
Valerie Koo
was accepted
into the University of Waterloo’s school of pharmacy and
began her first year in January 2017. Valerie is in a four-year
doctor of pharmacy program and will graduate in 2020.
Mikaela Preston
is completing her junior year studying
chemical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.
Mikaela spent last summer in Toronto exploring
opportunities in domestic and international sustainability
policy and clean-tech entrepreneurship. In June, she
attended the United Nations Multi-stakeholder Forum on
Science, Technology and Innovation at the UN headquarters
in New York City, where she spoke in front of the assembly
on youth innovation. She subsequently joined the UN
Major Group for Children and Youth, the General Assembly-
mandated space for formal youth engagement. Over the past
year, she has been working on the Science-Policy Interface
Team, where they advocate for evidence-based policy. In
October, she attended Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador ‒ the
largest sustainable development conference in the world.
Mikaela still finds time to enjoy swing dancing, involvement
in her sorority (Alpha Delta Pi) and snowboarding, where she
competes at the collegiate level and races every weekend
on the Penn Ski & Snowboard Team.
Alexandra (Alex) Strickland
is a third-year student
studying political science at the University of Tampa.
Last semester, Alex did an exchange to the University of
Amsterdam. She had the opportunity to visit 12 different
countries while abroad, including Morocco. Amsterdam was
amazing and, in Amsterdam, she learned how to ride a bike
and survived some very close “in the canal” experiences,
but finally got the hang of it. After enjoying summer 12
months of the year for the past two years, Alex really
enjoyed watching the leaves change last fall. She took a
class which looked into youth and youth activism and is now
part of a global network connecting youth advocates across
many different contexts. Alex looks forward to returning to
Toronto for the summer to continue working for a criminal
law firm.
