the Bill. These matters were discussed and An
Taoiseach promised to give careful consideration
to the Society’s views. A deputation had also been
received by Mr. Gerard Sweetman, Minister for
Finance, to discuss questions connected with the
proposed remission o f the duties at present paid by
solicitors and apprentices. The result o f this dis
cussion had also been satisfactory. The first reading
o f the Bill had been taken in Dail Eireann and An
Taoiseach had stated that the second reading would
be taken in October next.
Labourers’ Acts. Costs.
T
h e
President reported that a deputation from the
Council had been received by Mr. Patrick O’Donnell,
T.D ., Minister for Local Government. A memor
andum from the Council had been submitted in
which it was strongly urged that the present scales
o f costs under the Labourers’ Acts are unsatisfactory,
and that the costs should be increased. The Minister
had promised to give careful consideration to the
Society’s views. He had stated that there are a
number of other matters between the Council and
the Department, which have arisen in recent years
and he proposed to have all these matters included
in a memorandum which would be sent to the
Society. When the memorandum has been received
and considered by the Council, it is expected that
a further discussion will take place between the
Minister and the Society’s representatives.
