WOOD CONSTRUCTION
The company’s success can also be attributed
to its customer oriented focus to develop
new ways for construction. In line with its
history of innovation Simpson Strong-Tie has
expanded its range of structural fasteners
in South Africa to include the new Simpson
Strong-Tie Strong-Drive
®
SDWS Framing
Screw as well as the heavier duty SDW screw.
The Strong-Drive
®
SDWS Framing Screw
is a versatile structural fastener and has
been designed for framing and remodelling
applications, where the superior holding
power and pull-out resistance of screws is
required over nails.
The SDWS Framing screw has a
SawTooth™ Type-17 point with serrated
threads that makes for fast starts with
reduced torque and no pre-drilling. Every
part of the fastener design is considered and
the T25 bit holds the 6-lobe recess tightly,
reducing cam-out and head stripping.
High-strength, fast driving
structural timber fasteners
For over 60 years, Simpson Strong-Tie
®
has focused on
developing products that help people build safer and
stronger structures. Simpson Strong-Tie is synonymous
with high quality innovative construction solutions.
shear capabilities of a bolt without needing
to drill a hole. The installation time is also
dramatically reduced as there is no need to
tighten a nut and bolt. Place the screws at
the crossover of the timber members and
drive it home. Watch the timber members
pull together as the SDW screw engages and
clamps the timber together.
Using the SDW screw as the fastener
for the purlin to the truss will ensure that
the connection of the roof sheeting through
the purlin to the truss is secure, even in the
harshest conditions.
With Simpson Strong-Tie’s aim to build
safer stronger structures more economically,
you achieve the clamping and holding
capacity of bolt with quicker installation time
on site, saving time and money.
Simpson Strong-Tie uses its Quik Guard
®
coating on the SDWS Framing Screw which
provides extra corrosion protection for
the use in exterior applications as well as
with preservative treated timbers further
increasing the versatility of this fastener.
Clamping force is what makes a strong
joint. The thread design of the SDWS
Framing Screw allows for greater grip into
the timber while the head design means that
it will clamp the timber members as opposed
to burying the head into the timber.
The Strong-Drive
®
range of premium
fasteners also includes the SDW Timber
Screw which has been designed for greater
shear capacity as it is larger in diameter.
The SDW timber screw will replace a bolt
in this application giving the clamping and
