... Edinburgh
I was pleased with my own performance
against Edinburgh. The set piece went well, we
dominated the scrum well, on lineouts and mauls,
we could have been slightly more effective but
overall I was ecstatic to get the win and happy to
be out there and starting again.
It’s been a while since we got a win under our
belts, we played really well during the first half
and it’s just a pity we didn’t back that up in
the second. I think going into this week it’s so
important that we build on the first half and keep
the momentum going from there. We let a few
mistakes in the second half get to us, that led to
a number of errors which interrupted the flow of
play.
... Building Mental Toughness
We have been working with a Sport Psychologist
recently, who is training the squad to develop and
build on our mental toughness during a game.
It has really helped us, especially the guys in
the front row. He is adding another layer to the
attributes that we as athletes need at this level
of the game. The S&C guys work so hard to get
us in peak physical condition, but you also need
your mental game to be strong. The Psychologist
is pushing us to be the best we can be. A lot of
work focuses on routine and mental preparation,
how to think positively and if there is a mistake
in the game, training our minds to overcome it
quickly. It’s been really interesting and beneficial
for us all.
... Glasgow
The Glasgow game away at the end of
September was one of the most enjoyable games
that I have played in this season. We played
really well and I think that if we can build on the
Edinburgh game and take confidence from our
performance at Scotstoun, we will get the win.
We showed great momentum in the forwards last
week, winning the lineout, winning the scrums,
we had the forward battle sorted, so it’s just a
case of giving the backs the ball on a plate and
we will be flying on Saturday.
... Getting Players Back From Injury
Having Stuart, Pete and Marcell back from
long-term injury last week was an added bonus.
Marcell was excellent, he carried the ball all day
long. You can clearly see his ability to run over the
top of boys is unbelievable. It gives you that extra
passion to follow his lead, bulldoze guys and get
the backs the ball. Let’s hope we can keep that
momentum up for 80 minutes this weekend.
