Southern North Sea and Irish Sea

Mattress decommissioning in these areas is anticipated to be concentrated between 2016 and 2023, with the

greatest activity in 2017 and 2020 (see Figure 23 overleaf). The number of mattresses to be decommissioned in

the SNS and Irish Sea has increased slightly since the 2014 report to 3,300 because of the improved granularity in

activity forecasts. The projects deferred outside of the timeframe in these regions have little forecast activity in

this area and so limited impact on the total to be removed.

Removal of other subsea infrastructure is forecast to peak in 2016. The total amount of subsea infrastructure to

be removed in the SNS and Irish Sea has increased by 700 tonnes to 2,200, although it remains substantially lower

than in the CNS and NNS/WofS regions. The increase is due to new projects and more detailed activity forecasts

for existing projects.
