lovers. How was your
February? Did you see
either sideshows or Laneway
performances from DIIV,
HEALTH, Royal Headache or
Grimes? All put on mighty
powerful shows last month, but
Royal Headache in particular
have been impressing right and
left, with their latest record
High getting some critical
attention as well: it’s in with a
chance at the 11th Australian
Music Prize, the winner of
which is to be announced any
day now. The Sydney punk-
rockers’ second release is
amongst some stiff competition
with Courtney Barnett’s
Sometimes I Sit And Think, And
Sometimes I Just Sit and Tame
Impala’s Currents also up for
the $30,000 prize. Veteran radio
host, journalist and influential
punk frontman Henry Rollins is
due to host the Sydney AMPed
in Conversation event which
accompanies the winner's
announcement, and he's
apparently absolutely steaming
to be involved as he adores

Early this month I caught
seminal Aussie hip hop artist
Urthboy at the preview launch
of his new album The Past
Beats Inside Me Like A Second
Heartbeat , as well as the
gorgeous sounds of Waxahatchee
(AKA Katie Crutchfield), the
Alabama indie kid who is doing
well off her excellent 2015 album
Ivy Tripp. I was also lucky enough
to attend a listening session and
Q + A event with Steve Berkowitz,
the producer behind Jeff Buckley’s
beloved album Grace as well
as this month’s You And I , a
collection of previously unreleased
Buckley recordings. Coming up
it’s all about my first ever time
attending South By Southwest
(SXSW), the massive annual
conference/festival of film and
music held in Austin, Texas. The
music element runs from March
15 – 20, and although you’re
guaranteed to discover something
new while you’re there, I’m
hoping to catch Micachu and the
Shapes, HINDS, Alex G and Thee
Oh Sees. Wish me luck, and until
