Undermount
or
Abovemount?
Thinking about whether to undermount or topmount
your sink? While the undermount look is often the first
choice, abovemount installation is increasingly used in
contemporary design, for its practical simplicity and raw
aesthetic.
Sinks in the
TETRA PRO SERIES
and
KUBIC KU SERIES
have superior rim finish and a low edge profile, making
them ideal for either abovemount or undermount
installation. There are design considerations and
advantages with both styles.
UNDERMOUNT
Undermount installation requires a
solid surface benchtop like stone or
granite. The sink rim is mounted below
the benchtop, so the sink effectively
hangs under the counter top. This
creates a continuous smooth surface from the benchtop
directly into the sink and maximises the benchtop.
If you are concerned that the edges of the benchtop
cutout may be hit by hard objects and become damaged
over time, you may wish to consider abovemounting
your sink.
ABOVEMOUNT
As well as protecting the edges of your
benchtop cutout, this style has an appeal
of its own and allows more flexibility in
the choice of benchtop material.
The sink simply drops into a benchtop
cutout and the rim is visible on the benchtop.
