Committee on Statistics

I.

SCOPE:

The Committee on Statistics provides advice and consent on all usage or changes to

7

statistical methodology used in AOAC studies or in the interpretation of results. The

8

Committee reports to the AOAC Official Method Board (‘OMB), and the committee chair

9

serves as a member of the OMB.

II.

COMMITTEE:

a.

Composition:

The committee shall be comprised of a maximum of 18 members

13

including the Chair, of which 9 are voting (Full Members) the rest non-voting

14

(Associate Members). The President of AOAC on the recommendation of the OMB

15

shall appoint all members to the Committee (Full and Associate) for a three-year

16

term. The term begins and ends with the AOAC Annual Business Meeting. All

17

Members may serve a maximum of two consecutive three-year terms as a Member,

18

unless the Official Methods Board approves reappointment with rationale. The

19

chair is initially appointed for one three-year term and may serve one additional

20

three-year term if reappointment is approved with rationale by the Official Methods

21

Board and the President of AOAC.

b.

Full Members:

The Chair appoints at its pleasure, members to be Full (voting)

Members of the Committee if approved with rationale by the Official Methods

24

Board. If a Full Member is unable to attend a Committee Meeting, he/she may ask

25

an Associate Member to serve as a Proxy in her/his absence. If a Full Member fails

26

to participate in 3 or more consecutive meetings of the Committee, the Chair may

27

petition to transfer that member to Associate status only due to non-participation

28

in Committee Meetings. Once a Full Member is removed as a voting member due to

29

failure to participate in 3 or more consecutive meetings of the Committee, the Chair

30

will promptly appoint a replacement from the pool of Associate Members if

31

approved with rationale by the Official Methods Board.

c.

Associate Members:

Associate Members will have all the same duties and

33

responsibilities of a Full Member except for Voting. New members will ordinarily

34

serve a minimum of one year as an Associate member before becoming eligible for

35

appointment as a Full member of the Committee.

d.

Quorum:

A quorum of the Committee consists of 6 or more Full Members.
