SYSTEMS SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Characteristics of Work:
As part of the Information Services Division, the position is charged with innovating and maintaining a system of support and
technical assistance in the areas of eLearning. The position will assist with systems and software management and development,
work closely with college eLearning personnel, work to integrate and expand the interactivity of all distance education
methodologies, and will assist in project implementation. Responsibilities also include planning, directing, assessing, and
reporting of activities in a manner that assures quality results. This is a professional, full-time position that will work closely with
the Assistant Executive Director for eLearning and Instructional Technology.

Examples of Work:
The following examples are intended only as illustrations of the various tasks performed by the incumbent in this position. These
examples are not meant to be exhaustive; they are representative of the general functions of this position.
1.
Designs, creates, and maintains eLearning databases.
2.
Manages, troubleshoots, and provides technical support for eLearning technologies. (ex. Canvas MCCB
developed applications and other 3

party software for eLearning).
3.
Serves as the MSVCC technology liaison with technology vendors.
4.
Works collaboratively with the MCCB and the 15 community colleges in efforts to provide sufficient technical
support for eLearning applications.
5.
Maintains a broad understanding of current and emerging instructional technologies in higher education.
6.
Organizes and implements technology projects with the eLearning Association.
7.
Works collaboratively with the on eLearning Association on new and existing projects.
8.
Works with the Director of Applications and Data Management to plan, design, build and test quality software.
9.
Develops user manuals for eLearning Applications.
10.
Provides training and documentation to eLearning faculty and staff on all applications purchased and utilized by
the eLearning Association. This will include training in the transfer of data between eLearning Applications and
MCCB developed applications.
11.
Serves on the eLearning Associations’ Support Services Committee.
12.
Represents the agency through oral and written communications and reports.
13.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director for Technology.
Minimum Requirements:
x
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year institution in computer science, data processing, business information
systems, instructional technology, or a related field.
x
Minimum of three years’ experience in web based systems design, programming and/or systems software and support.
x
Working knowledge of, MS SQL, HTML, Excel, Curl, LAN/WAN protocols TCP/IP.
x
Extensive working knowledge of data file formats.
x
Working knowledge and experience in data migrations and importing / exporting data between multi-vendor software
applications
x
Working knowledge of advanced web technologies and backend databases
x
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
x
Excellent organizational and inter-personal skills
