MATERNITY LEAVE
1.
The first absence from duty for a visit to a physician's office or other clinic for diagnosis of a pregnancy does require
the use of personal leave, but subsequent absences for treatment of this condition may be charged to major medical
leave.
2.
The point at which maternity leave commences is a matter for the employee and the employee's attending physician to
determine. An employee should provide the Executive Director with written notification and obtain approval prior to
commencing maternity leave. The notification should include the date the employee intends to leave, expected delivery
date, and, if the employee intends to return to work, the date of expected return. If the employee does not intend to
return to work, the position may be filled once maternity leave commences. If the employee does intend to return to
work and the expected return date should change, the employee should notify the Executive Director as soon as
possible. Notification of maternity leave should be given at least thirty (30) days prior to the date the employee expects
the leave to begin.
