THE AMERICAN CLUB
NOV / DEC 2017
I often say that I view The American Club Members and staff as one big family. And
so it’s with a heavy heart that I share that we are losing a cherished member of the
pack. As many of you are aware, Martin Rudden is moving back to Australia at the
end of the year.
After starting at The Club as head tennis pro in 1999 and moving through the ranks
to become the Club’s General Manager in 2012, Martin is the embodiment of The
American Club spirit. In his 18 years here, he has continually taken on new roles
and responsibilities to engage Members and make The Club an organization that
celebrates warmth, inclusivity and community for all. Aussie by birth, he personifies
the American “up-for-anything” positivity with a friendly, can-do attitude – he has
even been a stand-in Uncle Sam! Martin is well-loved by his team, and in his five-and-
a-half-year tenure as General Manager, continues to drive The Club in attracting
new members, reaching financial targets and enjoying some of the lowest staff
attrition rates in recorded history. If you walk through The Club with Martin, every
staff member has a smile and a wave for “the boss.”
Martin’s leadership has enabled The Club to succeed in a changing and increasingly
difficult market, as well as to undertake the redevelopment project, which will
ultimately redefine The Club and further entrench it as a market leader in Singapore
and around the world. On a personal note, he has been a wonderful collaborator,
sounding board and friend to me. I will miss him and his infectious, positive spirit
beyond words.
Please help me to thank Martin for his dedication to The Club and community and to
wish him well in the next chapter of his life back in Australia.
Warm regards,
Kristen
