Domicile and Recognition of Foreign Divorces

A c t , 1 9 8 6 —

(contd. from p.270)

If neither spouse is domiciled in Ireland, the divorce

will be recognised, although not granted in the country

where either of the spouses are domiciled, if it is

recognised in the country (or both countries) where the

spouses are domiciled.

This only applies to divorces granted after the 2nd day

of October, 1986 and affects no other grounds for

refusing divorce in this country.

The tax consequences are similar to the consequences

of the change in the domicile of dependency, but the Act

cannot affect any divorce granted prior to the 2nd day

of October 1986.
