APRIL 1986

Society of Young Solicitors

Twenty-First

Anniversary

Seminar

The S.Y.S. is holding a special anniversary seminar in

Mullingar to mark its coming of age. In 1965 a band of

young adventurous solicitors held their first meeting in

Mullingar and this year's Committee has decided to

return to the scene of the crime.

The seminar will be held on the 9th, 10th and 11th of

May 1986 at the Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar and

promises to be a memorable week-end. For twenty-one

years now the S.Y.S. has been providing lectures as will

as a venue for solicitors to exchange views and experiences

of practice, procedure and the profession in general. This

seminar in Mullingar will be marked by a lecture from

the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Hamilton

and also by lectures from three former Chairmen of the

S.Y.S., Mr. Bruce St.John Blake, Mr. John F. Buckley

were both founding members of the S.Y.S. and the

present Committee are delighted to see that they are still

sufficiently mobile and alert to join in the anniversary

seminar!

Mr. Blake is giving his lecture on Occupational Injuries

and Mr. John F. Buckley is dealing with the subject of

Landlord & Tenant. On Saturday afternoon Mr. William

Earley will deal with the law relating to computers and

Mr. Justice Liam Hamilton will be speaking on Sunday

morning about the changing High Court.

The Committee are intent on making this week-end a

very special one and there is lots on the menu! Bloomfield

House hotel has a lovely "country house" atmosphere

and is surrounded by an array of lakes, forests and

beautiful country-side. Wind-surfing, tennis (come

prepared for the mixed tournament), golf, horse-riding

and fishing will be available and a car treasure hunt has

been organised.

Friday night opens with a disco and this will be the first

twenty-first birthday party of the week-end. Saturday

night boasts the Gala Twenty-first Anniversary Ball with

lots of spot prizes to be won and you should note that

for the first time this will be a strictly black tie affair,

the S.Y.S. have become respectable! On Sunday morning

the President of the High Court, Mr. Justice Hamilton

will be delivering his lecture and you can spend the

afternoon taking a boat on Lough Owel or Lough

Derravaragh.

The S.Y.S. Organising Committee Members, whose

only desire will be to attend to your every need, are:

Chairperson - Claire Callanan, Sue Doyle, Liz Galvin,
