PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The first phase of this project from FY 2008 converted one of the 12 wastewater
treatment sections to a biological nutrient removal process, which increasesd its
efficiency by creating conditions favorable for nitrogen reduction. Test results
determined the optimum conversion process for all sections beginning in FY
2012. All processes must be in place by 2018, a mandate from the State of
North Carolina. New scum handling equipment will also be added to enhance
denitrification.
