Dean Sutherland

is a speech-language therapist and also

a lecturer in the Health Sciences Centre at the University of

Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand. His teaching and

research interests include the development of communication,

the communication needs of adults with intellectual disability

and the use of augmentative and alternative communication with
