The TorC'ros, hitting a poor 25 p<'r cent from the floor and with Cravrns having a bad l time in the first half, roared back from an 18-point drficit lo disrupt the usually unruf- fled dc-fensive-minded West- erners in the second half. Cravens hit six field goals and thre<' of four frc-e frc-e throws for 15 points, all in the- SPCOnd portion of th<' C'Oll· test. However, he was second hi h to tc-ammatc- John Rob- bins, a 5-11 guard, who canned 16 points. • Actually, it was Robbins' steady floor game that kept th!! Torc-ros allvr in thr first half and enabled them to catch firr in the second. He hit eight points in each half. Studc-nls in the p a C k C d gymnasium, rushed fro m the USD stands and mobbed th.I' Torc-ro players. C o a c h Bob Sexton was carrlrd on the- shoulders of several play- Prs as they lt>ft the gym. It was somewhat rc>mlnis- cent ot the last athlc-tlc eon- test between the two schools. In that one, on the football !leld, SD blew a 12-0 lead to fa II, 28-18, to the underdog Westernc-rs. This was the first time in five meetings that the Toreros have been able to defeat coach Bob Kloppr-nburg's cagers. Morris Greenwood, whosl! pumping jump shot, and Joe Treaster, with a nifty hook shot, kept the Wcsternl!rs in the chase through the second period. Greenwood tanked 14 points while Treaster and Frank Fugat added 12 each. USD didn t catch the Wc>st- crners until 2 :08 was left in the> game. Cravens hit a 15-foot jump shot to make it 62-all. Th.en the Westrrners' game fell completely apart and wild tosses gave USD an- other chance at the bucket. Art Wical laid it in with 1:14 to go. Duane Barnes of Cal Wrst- '! e1 n missed a chance to tie it with one second left when he hit one of two frel! throws at- ' tempts. Johnson's jump shot ' after a rebound rolled around the rim and out and thal wa~ all for the Westerners.
