… As I am preparing for the puja, 3 Gujaratis from Ahmedabad come in (an elderly man with his son and daughter-in-law); they say they have known Kusum for many years and that the elder man was a close friend of hers. They sit a moment, but are restless and soon leave. I had the impression they came on a request from Kusum’s relatives and that they were prejudiced, although the lady, I felt, would have wished to stay longer… Quite in keeping, they make the grand gesture, upon leaving, of offering… Rs. 10/-…!
