Notes from the Chebeague Island Council

Happy 4 th of July!

Wednesday afternoons instead of mornings. Summer is a busy time for doctors too. I know the community appreciates his willingness to make getting to Chebeague every week a priority. Dr. O’Donnell and his secretary, Kristin Cloutier, will be here most Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional morning hours when his schedule demands that he be on the mainland. Look for updates on Bev’s blog, signs on the boat, and watch for “The Doctor Is In” sign out front. Summer is also a busy time for Chedemption. Each nonprofit’s volunteers take a turn packing up the bottles and cans and making sure they get sent off Island to be returned. The money raised is divided equally among these nonprofits. Please don’t feel you have to be part of a nonprofit organization to help out. It is easy! Call any of the nonprofits and let them know you would like to help. Every little bit helps. That is how Chebeague makes good things happen. There is so much planned for the 4 th of July weekend! Check out all the great things to do, play, see, and eat while we celebrate with our family and friends. Enjoy it all and stay safe.

See the 4 th of July Events page for a list of the day’s activities!!

The Council would like to thank our Island community, both near and far, for all their support! Our membership is up, and all those generous donations will help keep folks warm, well nourished, and healthy! Although we had a warmer than usual winter, this cold spring has unexpectedly extended the heating season. Hunger and illness know no season. Thank you. Don’t forget, the 2016 membership roster closes July 15 th so we can prepare for our Annual meeting in August. Convenient Care is happening! Dr. O’Donnell even comes over in his own boat. There are a couple of Wednesdays that he cannot make it, but he is sending his nurse practitioner, Angela Loveless, to fill in. As the folks who came last week discovered, she does everything Dr. O’Donnell does, so prescriptions were written, blood was drawn, calls were made, and convenient, affordable medical care was provided. It is great to have a doctor back on the Island.

Dr. O’Donnell’s July and August schedule will include some
