December 2024 Beacon

Commodore’s Comments: PC Rick Romatz Hello NCYC Members, I hope all is well with everyone.

As I’m sitting here writing my last NCYC Beacon article I’m thinking to myself what an Awesome and Amazing year we had with the 2024 boating season we really wanted to bring back some of the Traditional Yacht Club events and activities that made this club the best on the Great Lakes it is today, and we want to thank all of the NCYC members and events / activities chair people for all of your participation and support to help make this such a successful year. I’m sure incoming 2025 Commodore Bill Burkhardt and his Lady Susan have some awesome plans for the upcoming 2025 boating season at NCYC starting with the Commodores Ball January 11,2025 at the St Clair Inn. My hope is that they receive the same help and support from the Board and Membership as we did, I’m sure they will. It truly has been a privilege and honor for me and Jill to serv NCYC as your 59th Commodore and First Lady. We consider North Channel Yacht Club as one of the greatest private member clubs on the Great Lakes one with integrity, highly respected by the boating community and fellow Yacht clubs for its Traditions, Camaraderie, member fellowship teamwork makes the dream work members who work together and play together stay together. In closing I would like to say thank you the 2024 Board of directors for all the help and support in making this such a successful year and to outgoing Transportation Director Tom Lisowski for keeping our Finn Runners in good running order and Board Recorder Frank Cocoran for an awesome job with our meeting records. Thank You all for a Great 2024 Boating Season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you and your Families. Thank You 2024 Commodore PC Rick Romatz

A Message from Chaplain Mark Javery

During this season of joyous celebrations remember and reach out to those in our NCYC family who are grieving the loss of loved ones, those who are battling chronic illness, and others recovering from various needed procedures. At the time of these notes being written I am only aware of one member in-patient as Bob Fringer continues his rehabilitation to get home. Recently home and recovering are P/C Harley Burris, Steve Scarpaci and Jim Wunderlich. Anticipating needed procedures are Director Shelley Sweier and Kathy Fowler. We do have the best membership that I know will keep these and others unmentioned in your prayers. Christmas is a season most of us look forward to. The excitement of giving and receiving gifts, gathering and re-connecting with family and friends, Christmas music everywhere, and plenty of good food to enjoy. Although, I often feel Christmas can be overwhelming from a worldly perspective of expectations. Its celebrations can require lots of cost, planning, energy, and often the help of others to make what we feel is expected work. It wasn’t always this way. The bible tells a different story about the very first Christmas. While many people were anticipating the birth of our savior, the Lord of Lords and King of Kings to be something grand and special. What happened was a baby born in a stable in the out of way

town of Bethlehem. Apart from a few shepherds, a few believers, and of course the host of angels, the birth of Jesus was a non-event at the time. Yet, the innocent beauty and purity of this baby held the hope of all humanity. The grace, love, and forgiveness that would be demonstrated by this baby would be far more special and life changing than any Christmas gift ever given or imagined. In the busyness and celebration of Christmas, I pray we all take time to remember that the true meaning of Christmas is not about the lights, gifts, and food. It is about peace, love, and joy for all in the birth of our savior.

I wish our entire NCYC family Christmas blessings and a safe, healthy, prosperous New Year.

In joyful hope, Your Chaplain Mark

Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and peace to all people on earth.

This Board continues to show its commitment to teamwork, working together to get the job done and always in the best interests of the club and the membership. Thank You all for your hard work and commitment to North Channel Yacht Club. 3. Just as a reminder we need to keep any discussions we have at the Board table at the Board table nothing good comes out when we discuss such matters with anyone outside of the Board members before we are ready as a Board to present to others. 4. Now that the Clubhouse and Island is ready for the long winters nap Thank You all for the participation and help we had at all the work parties I think we handled everything in a timely fashion.

Thank You Commodore PC Rick Romatz

John O’Leary

Good day fellow NCYC members, Would like to thank the members for their energic and herculean efforts in wrapping up the grounds in an impressive 2-weekend time frame. So helpful and appreciative in members partnering up and taking the lead on pulling buoys, ladders, docks, stacking outdoor tables, furniture and propane and all the little things with little to no disruption to my ability in allowing me to focus on learning how to shut down the sprinkler system. Some serious heavy lifting and above and beyond efforts were needed and demonstrated. Truly amazed how organized and efficient you all were. Working on next year’s initiatives and with your support, ideas and continued assistance, we will continue to improve year after year. Again, thanks to all that have helped with projects large and small and supported me in learning about this treasure of an island we share. Donna and I wish you all a happy and healthy Thanksgiving Respectfully, John O’Leary End of report
