MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

k. MSVCC Student Survey (End of Semester Evaluation) – Terry Pollard. Terry asked if the group would like the survey to be revised or modified before the end of this semester. Jennifer said that the quality committee has added that as one of its goals/objectives. They agree that it should be revised. We would like to consider making the changes prior to the end of the spring semester. Jackie asked if we could revisit when this survey was made available. We are not capturing the options of those that are withdrawing from the course. We may need to make this survey option available regardless of their status within the course. The current survey will become available on Wednesday, November 12 th . m. Blackboard Webinar on Enrollment. During Boot camp we discussed that in the grade center that instructors could see one thing in the grade center and students could see something different. They will need more detailed data and occurrences of this so that they can troubleshoot the issue. What user the student is, what user the instructor is, course, sections, and screen shots. Cannot find anything at this point without having an actual example. The second issue we need to discuss is with student availability. What approach is the most palatable? The topic is to be able to access disabled enrollment records coming from the enrollment tool. Currently this is not accessible because the record is being hidden via snapshot. Two options: (1) Look for a solution in the way that the integration works within Bb. We could change the way that the enrollment data comes across so that it changes the availability but does not hide the record. Bb would then be controlling the availability option and not the inactive/active option. Integration controls the row status. If we look at this as a solution, we make no changes to the ET. We would change the integration and one property. The cons would be that we would lose the ability for instructions to override whether the record is available. The record would still appear in the gradebook unless the instructor hides it from the gradebook. There can be support confusion. The instructor could make the course as unavailable to the student, but snapshot will switch this back. (2) Change the ET to re-enable the active status within the ET. We may be able to reintroduce a new field for an override status so that the override would send the record availability back to Bb. Would need to know how far back we would need to go for re-enabling that record. Audra asked what occurs when we reactivate this student and our SIS shows that this is not a current student, in order to see grade data? Phil stated that as long as we are no longer receiving data for the current term, we can implement the change without snapshot. There will be the little x indicator that shows that the student has been withdrawn. The instructor would see a full roster and those that have dropped would see the red x. There could be an issue when a student is dropped via the MSVCC snapshot as well as the user snapshot from your SIS. Audra asked what the time frame would be for this to take place. Phil stated that they would need to conduct a data clean up and coordinate on their end the change of the properties data will take place. Audra would like to discuss this with Christian, Phil, Wade, Terry during the Thursday call. l. Blackboard Presentation on Strategic Planning. Tabled.

V. SBCJC Business – Christian Pruett and Terry Pollard. Christian discussed the possibility of an upgrade to Service Pack 3. He will email the group the release notes of what problems are solved
