MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

i. How often can we run the template and course permission script? The script is not run automatically, so it will run at least once a day. Christian would like to run the script at 1 a.m. once a day. Sean will need to know the naming conventions for each course that is a problem. He will run the script on a school-by- school basis. It would take a long time for the query to complete if he ran it for all courses in the system. Once Christian receives this information, then he will get Sean to run the script to fix the access denied errors. ii. Can the SP7 upgrade fix these problems? Sean does not know if SP7 will fix the problems we are having. The script for both the course template and access denied errors will automatically run for the first three weeks of the spring semester starting at 2 a.m. The first run is scheduled for Jan. 4 th . c. BB Collaborate is available. Christian would like to promote this product in the spring so that the group can make a decision about to move forward with Blackboard Collaborate or not. Before the summer semester, we also need to think about whether we would like to keep Blackboard Instant Message. d. Instructors of the Year. The following instructors were selected as the Online Instructors of the Year: Hellen Thompson from NEMCC and Carol Warlon from NWMCC. Ms. Thompson and Ms. Warlon have been invited to present at the pre-conference at CFTTC. e. Enrollment Tool (ET). Christian discussed how the ET was built for what it is doing now. But it is breaking down. He would like the committee to evaluate every request and evaluate the ET. Ive is getting one-on-one requests and so the ET committee will need to look at each request strategically before presenting the request to the ELCs. Christian will work with the committee to put a process in place so when they receive requests for the ET, they are better explored and prioritized. Christian said that he will do a better job of letting us know the status of our requests. f. E-Textbook Vendor Comparison Grid. Terry discussed the e-textbook vendors that he has found. At the meeting, he provided a handout about each vendor. Terry will email the group an electronic version of the grid. g. Reminder of LEC Proposal Deadline. The conference is on February 21, 2012. Registration to attend the conference will open on Dec. 5 th . The conference is free, breakfast and lunch will be included. They do plan to block out some rooms for those that will travel. Terry has received all of the documents- PowerPoints, manuals, etc. as part of the licensed training materials. He will upload the materials so ELCs are able to download them. Terry has not decided where he will upload the materials. But he will let us know. i. Reminder of BB Tab worksheet deadline. Terry is willing to help us make changes to the tabs in Blackboard. Terry will email everyone the information to allow us to see Meridian’s tabs and sub-tabs. j. Creating Futures Conference (Pre-conference). Terry provided a schedule for the pre- conference. Lilly Land asked if the sessions at the pre-conference can be recorded. Terry said “possibly”, but he will look into it. k.
