Due to our close relationship with S-Tec on other components such as mirrors, we have introduced a range of OEM brake vacuum pumps into our range. S-Tec supply brake vacuum pumps to the likes of BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Renault and many more. Based upon this, we have also introduced a further 24 references into our range which include the Renault Master 2011 onwards and the Mercedes E-Class 2011 onwards. S-Tec has established themselves internationally and among reputed car manufacturers as well as specialist dealers. They supply parts to niche markets due to their experience and comprehensive know how. Technology and innovation leadership is the very essence of S-Tec’s philosophy to deliver superior original quality parts to OE and aftermarket sectors – consistently meeting the highest quality standards with perfection to the last detail. Each pump has been designed and tested together with leading vehicle manufacturers. Specialist materials are utilised that are unique to each pump for optimum performance and prolongs the life of

the pump itself. This also improves the extraction capacity and power consumption. S-Tec conform to ISO 9001:2008 and is covered by BER Block Exemption certificate which can be found on ECPedia. SACHS Springs Parallel vs Tapered Wire Coil Springs S ACHS offer the world’s largest range of automotive coil springs, covering more than 10,000 standard and heavy duty applications. To provide a choice for installers, the SACHS coil spring range features a selection of tapered wire alternatives to sit alongside their existing parallel wire designs. Technology While the vast majority of OE coil springs are made from parallel spring wire, that maintains a constant thickness throughout the length of the spring, a small number of OE producers employ tapered wire springs on a limited and declining number of applications in order to achieve a slight weight saving. SACHS parallel wire alternatives are designed to match the spring rate and vehicle-handling characteristics of the original tapered wire spring, with the additional benefit of lower stress levels at critical points within the spring, making premature failure less likely. Some installers prefer to fit identical-looking replacements however, and SACHS are happy to offer a choice: parallel wire for durability with a 3-year warranty or tapered wire for the OE look with a 2-year warranty.

SACHS Springs - The complete range of automotive springs, with high availability, short delivery times, and competitive prices.

Oil contamination

Turbo Clinic B e it as Brand new or Remanufactured, Euro Car Parts are committed to providing our customers with only the very highest quality of Turbocharger in the aftermarket today. Our warranty return rate on turbos is incredibly low, although, Whatmanydonot realise is, Turbochargersareactuallyvery reliable: less than 1% of turbos fail due to a manufacturing fault with the actual turbo itself, yet a whopping 95% of turbo failures occur, due to 1 of the following 3 problems: • Oil starvation, • Oil contamination • Foreign object damage We are going to take a close look at each of the above faults, explaining how the fault occurs, and what preventative measures can be taken to avoid it happening in the first place: Why does oil starvation damage turbos? If oil is not present at start-up and while the turbo is running, the bearings will fail. Running a turbo without oil for five seconds is as harmful as running an engine without oil for five minutes. While it is important to check the engine oil pressure meets the manufacturer’s specifications, it is even more critical that the oil feed pipes to the turbo are clear and clean, so you are certain they can supply oil at the correct pressure. What causes oil starvation? Turbocharger failure

• A blocked, damaged or poor quality oil filter. • Worn oil pump. • Failure to prime the replacement turbo with oil during fitting. • The engine not being used for long periods, particularly in cold weather. Preventing turbo failure caused by oil starvation • Do not use silicone on oil gaskets; it can easily become detached and block oil passages. • Clean or replace oil inlet pipes to eliminate any carbon deposits or sludge that could restrict oil flow to the bearings. • It is important to check the oil pressure and oil supply to the turbo. • Always use fresh oil and new oil filters as recommended by the engine manufacturer when fitting a new turbo. Why does oil contamination damage turbos? As turbochargers can operate at over 6,000 revs per second (360,000 rpm) and endure temperatures of 950°C, turbo bearings are under g reat stress. The turbine shaft and bearings rotate in a thin film of oil. Consequently any fault with the oil supply to the turbo means its bearings are likely to fail before the engine’s main bearings. Running a turbo without oil for five seconds is as harmful as running an engine without oil for five minutes. It is even more critical that the oil feed pipes to the turbo are clean and clear, so you are certain they can supply uncontaminated oil, at the correct pressure. Contaminated or dirty oil will scratch or score the bearings, leading to rapid wear and ultimately, turbocharger failure.

• Low engine oil level in the sump. • A bent or kinked oil feed pipe. • Carbon deposits (coking) in the oil feed pipe. • Blockage caused by applying silicone to the oil inlet gasket. • Incorrect oil inlet gasket restricting oil supply.

Oil Starvation

Foreign object damage

What causes contaminated oil? • A blocked, damaged or poor quality oil filter. • High carbon build-up in the engine. This can rapidly contaminate even new oil. • Accidental contamination of new oil during servicing. • A malfunctioning oil filter bypass valve. • Engine wear, leaving swarf deposits in the oil. • Oil that has degraded due to excessive temperatures or extended service intervals Preventing turbo failure caused by contaminated oil • Always use fresh oil and new oil filters as recommended by the engine manufacturer when fitting a new turbo. • Ensure the oil is the correct grade for the engine. • Clean or replace oil inlet pipes to eliminate any carbon deposits or sludge that could enter the turbo or restrict oil flow to the bearings. How do ingested objects damage turbos? Turbochargers can spin at over 6,000 revs per second (360,000 rpm) and endure temperatures of 950°C. In these conditions, even the smallest object ingested or sucked into the turbo can damage or destroy the compressor and turbine, leading to low pressure or total failure. Compressor damage is caused by objects being sucked into the air intake. Turbine damage is usually caused by engine components, such as injector tips or valve train parts. What are the causes of impact damage? • Items sucked into the air intake because of a damaged, poor quality or missing air filter.

• Damaged hoses allowing small particles to enter the intake. • Gasket material entering the intake. • Nuts, bolts, washers, rags or other items left in the intake pipe during servicing. • Broken engine components, e.g. injector tips, valves or fragments of damaged piston. • Fragments from a previous turbocharger failure. Preventing turbo failure caused by impact damage • Ensure all air hoses are in good condition, intact and free from blockages or loose items. • Always use new gaskets to create perfect seals and avoid gasket breakup. • Always fit the correct new air filter. • Check there are no turbo or engine fragments in he system from the previous failure, before fitting the replacement. As the sales advisor, it’s key that the above faults are both understood and relayed back to your customer. Oil Starvation, Oil Contamination and foreign ingested objects are not covered under warranty. Euro Car Parts offer a 2 year ‘quibble’ warranty on Brand new OES Turbos and a 2 year warranty on Remanufactured Turbos (first year no quibble). Q uite a few vehicles require the replacement battery to be coded into the vehicle whilst being fitted, if not a warning light illuminates on the dash board, if this is ignored then the battery management system cannot confirm with the vehicle there is sufficient power available to support the everyday running requirements, this could lead to certain functions shutting down as the vehicle tries to reserve as much power as possible for the critical things like starting the vehicle, lights wipers etc. When replacing these batteries be aware there are no numbers on the battery to put into the coding machine, the codes are all pre-set in the device. Once the coding device is plugged into the ODB socket it then takes over with step by step instructions to validate the battery change and clear all fault codes from the dashboard, nothing could be simpler. Exide Battery coding Equipment BRT-12 Battery Bits Features • Validates battery replacement • Clears battery fault codes • Suitable for all batteries from all brands and manufacturers • All code configurations built in, (no computer connection required) • Directly powered from car voltage (no battery inside, no need to recharge) • 12 language options • Included are codes for VW, Audi, BMW – Mini • Initial subscription £65 When replacing these batteries be aware there are no numbers on the battery to put into the coding machine, the codes are all pre-set in the device.

What is ADAS?

Opportunity of more profits for the workshop

N inety five percent of all new car models tested by the European New Car Assessment Program in 2015 were already fitted with autonomous emergency braking. Vehicle systems that help the driver are nothing new. Ever since the 1960s, servo-assisted steering and braking have made driving more comfortable and convenient. The term "driver assistance systems" really only caught on with the increase in ‘smart’ control. Examples of these are Anti-lock braking systems, (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), windshield wipers with rain sensors, and speed-sensitive power steering. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems as the name suggests are ‘even smarter’, reacting both to the driver, and to external events, and playing an active part almost like an independent third party in controlling the vehicle in the interests of increased safety. Examples of advanced driver assistance systems are: • Adaptive Cruise Control and Start-Stop System • Automatically maintains a specific distance from the • vehicle ahead. • Emergency Brake Assist Increases braking • appropriately to perceived conditions if the driver's • braking is sluggish

• (Active) Lane Tracking Assistant Helps drivers keep their vehicles in the same lane. May also include an enhanced capability to optimise steering input during quick avoidance manoeuvers, and an active capability to apply gentle corrective measures all by itself. These systems all use cameras and radar sensors, which need calibrating • After radar or camera replacement or dismantling/ • installation • After post-accident repairs to the body geometry • After changes to the vehicle level at the front or • rear axle • After a suspected impact on the sensor • If the electronic control unit detects a calibration is required • After the unit housing the sensor ( bumper, windscreen, etc ) has been dismantled

Fortunately the Hella Camera System Calibration Tool used in conjunction with Hella Diagnostics machines has all the vehicle coverage a Workshop or Bodyshop needs to keep the work and the profits in-house.

Transmission Technical Tips

DMF Conversion Kits - Service Kits

MODELS Various models fitted with DMF conversion kits (SMF) PROBLEM Vehicles already fitted with a DMF conversion kit that require new clutch units (Service Kit) RESULT Inability to supply correct clutch parts The DMF conversion kits that replace the dual mass flywheel with a single mass/solid flywheel can be manufactured by different companies. When supplying the clutch service kits for vehicles that have already been fitted with a conversion kit it is very important to establish the correct parts required as in many cases the kits are not interchangeable. Can you answer the following question...

Do you know the type of solid flywheel kit fitted to the vehicle, was it Valeo, Transmech, other?

It is imperative to find out whose conversion kit was originally fitted in order to supply the correct clutch service kit, failure to carry this out could result in costly warranty issues. If the manufacturer cannot be identified then it is far safer to supply and fit another full conversion kit or return back to the DMF system.

New Literature

Corrosion Repair Guide and Performance Exhausts.

B ack by popular demand, the new & improved Corrosion Repair Guide is on its way to your branch next week. You can also view the newguide online via the following link - http://bit.ly/corrosionrepairguide2016 The new look guide, now with a further 16 pages added, is filled with new to range corrosion parts plus many more line drawings enabling you to quickly identify the correct part number for your customer. Line drawi ngs have been used to enhance the differences between each repair part and you’ll also find a useful index tab running down each page to help you easily search the vehicle manufacturer to match the part you’re after. Please ensure all of your Collision customers get a fresh copy of this Guide (including the ‘Fred’s in their sheds’ and Clive’s on their drives’). Don’t exclude garages either as many mechanics/owners have their own ‘projects’ they’re working on. Now summer’s here, it’s the perfect time for people to work on their classic car repairs, so make full use of this excellent publication.

For any queries referring to corrosion parts not listed in this booklet please contact Chris Graham on Christopher.graham@eurocarparts.com who will be happy to assist.

Read and understand the flyers and contact the customers that you think can take advantage of the Performance exhaust offer. Also make sure your BDM is armed with the literature: • Any specialist garages (e.g. VAG/BMW/Porsche etc.) • Exhaust centres that could have the opportunity of upselling performance options • Performance customers – e.g. Tuning garages, Wheel and tyre centres • All Prestige garages Speak to garages, and make them aware that the customer does not have to be a ‘performance driver’ to enjoy having a performance exhaust. They will benefit from a sportier sound, improved looks and engine performance as well as the piece of mind of a lifetime guarantee on certain brands. Most hot hatch and prestige car owners that require or choose to pay out for a new exhaust will love the opportunity to upgrade. It can also be a cost effective solution for ‘dealer only’ or expensive standard aftermarket exhausts. All these are a great opportunities for ECP customers to increase their profit from performance exhaust. So if your performance customers need great shiny POS for their shop or waiting room, please contact your exhaust FBT.

Another new publication that has landed in branch is the new flyer on Performance Exhaust. Euro Car Parts offer an outstanding range of Performance Exhaust Systems, Downpipes and Sports CATs in stock from market leading brands such as COBRA, HKS, MILLTEK and SCORPION . We can also supply on an order in basis popular brands such as JETEX, PIPER, REMUS, POWERFLOW and IPE. Recently we have produced a couple of pieces of marketing literature to support our performance exhaust range.
