Polish Fr~edom Group Pays Tribute to Prelate As a token of their inestimable appreciation to the Most Rev. Charles F. Buddy, D.D., Bishop of San Diego, repre- sentatives of the Society for the Promotion of Poland's In- dependence came from Los Angeles to San Diego on Sun- day, February 2, 1947, to pay tribute to His Excellency and
I to bestow upon him honorary membership in the society for his untiring zeal, sympathetic under- standing, and gallant efforts on behalf of the Polish cause. In a simple but impressive ceremony, conducted in conjunc- tion with a luncheon at the El Cor- tez Hotel, Mr. Romuald Gantkow- ski, chairman and president of the society, presented to His Excel- lency an elaborate scroll, especial- ly painted for the presentation by the Polish artist, Mr. Stanley Foray. In typical Polish fashion, the celebration feting the Bishop be- gan with Holy Mass at 12 :45 p.m. in St. Joseph's cathedral. The d e 1 e g a t e s from Los Angeles marched in procession into the sanctuary of the cathedral, accom- panied by Polish-speaking leaders ancf clergymen of San Diego. Holy Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Gluchowski, C. R., in the presence of the Bishop and a number of Polish speaking priests, two of whom assist the Bishop in his Curia. · Bishop Preaches The event was high-lighted by the Most Reverend Bishop's ser- ll'lon. In plain-spoken language His Excellency brought to light Poland's adamant refusal against odds to compromise truth in the face of a foe threatening her deeply Catholic culture and free- dom. After the services in the cath- edral, the delegation and all guests lunched at the EI Cortez hotel, where again His Holiness stressed the conviction that "just as Our Lord's crucifixion was fol- lowed by His resurrection so too, --Poland shall see a:dothe; Spring of resurrection." Principal speaker at the lunch- eon was Mr. Wladyslaw Kozlow- ski, former consul of the Republic of Poland and Dean of the Con- sular Corps in Detroit, Michigan. Complete text of Mr. Kozlowski's (Continued on Page 2) Msgr. Francis Ott Will Be Invested Sunday Afternoon The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Francis C. Ott, who was recently created a Domestic Prelate by His Holiness Pope Pius XII, will be formally invested at solemn ceremonies to be conducted by His Excellency, the Most Reverend Charles F, Buddy, D.D., Bishop of San Di- ego, Sunday afternoon, February 9, at 3 o'clock in St. Joseph's cathedral. The ceremony will be public, and Monsignor Ott invites his friends to attend. After the cere- mony the newly-invested prelate will entertain the clergy at dinner in the San Diego hotel. Dates and locations announced for the investiture of other newly- designated monsignori of the San Diego diocese are as follows: Rt. Rev. Msgr. Owen Hannon, Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in St. Joseph's cathedral; Rt. Rev. Msgr. Peter F. Lynch, Sunday, March 23, at 11 :30 a.m., in St. Francis de Sales church, Riverside; Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Power, Sunday, March 23, at 4 p.m., in St. Bernardine's church, San Bernardino.

The Southern Cross Relief Fund for Starving Children topped the forty thousand dollar mark this week, as seven contributions total- ing $211.64 were received. Heading the list was a donation of $100, in memory of Marie Skinner. The other six gifts received included a personal gift to the Most Reverend Bishop from the YLI to mark the 10th anniversary of His Excel- lency's installation.
