port of all residents of the four counties in order to carry out suc- cessfully this great program. Charitable Cause He pointed out that every in• dividual and every business firm will be solicited during the drive and that the entire public shall be given the opportunity to share in this worthy enterprise. "Catholic wage-earners through- out the Diocese are asked to con- tribute five pennies from each dollar earned during the next 20 months," the Bishop stated, "and their contributions of time, money, and effort will provide education for the young and aid for the needy. "Two solemn duties confront the people," he said, "to train valiant leadership for tomorrow, and to relieve the suffering of the help• less.
The Rockne Institute will be a technical school for boys and will provide educational training for carpenters, plumbers, electricians, cooks, and other useful craftsmen. The Institute will combine the ad- vantages of a boys' town with those of a technical arts school. The Bayside Social Center, whose former dilapidated residence was recently condemned as un- safe, will build a new schoof for the children of working mothers. The center provides a day nursery for young children and a program of supervised recreation for older children who attend school. The Guadalupe Clinic, which of- fers relief from suffering to those of limited means when they are ill, is urgently in need of more adequate facilities and a new building is now under construc- tion. Diocese-Wide The program f o r Imperial County will include a new high school for the youth of that county, a medical clinic at El Cen- tro for the needy of the Valley, and the land and some of the equipment for the proposed hos- pital in Brawley. The more than sixty thousand citizens of Imperial County have already organized, headed by prominent representa- tives, to erect the hospital.
