THE SOUTHERN CROSS, FRIDAY, MAY 17, 1946 St. Louis Couple Married In Bishop's Chapel

PASTOR PURCHASES PROPERTY FOR USE AS GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL I The San Diego Union academy, a Seventh-Day Adventist institu- tion, has been purchased by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Thomas J. McNamara, pastor of Our Lady of the Angels parish, to serve as a high school _ for the parish. Purchase of the academy, which is located at the corner of 30th and G streets, solves the acute problem of annexing sufficient land within the city for establishment of a much-needed high school by the parish. Monsignor McNamara plans to open a high school for girls in Sep- tember, 1947, in the institution which now serves as high school and elementary school for the Seventh Day Adventists. Terms of the pur- chase provide that the academy will continue to be used by that body until June 15, 1947. The purchase includes much equipment and several buildings, in- cluding a science hall, an assembly hall (now known as the chapel), the principal's office, a cafeteria, numerous classrooms, a library and reading room, Children's lockers, and a technical arts division. The real estate included in the purchase runs from Market to G I streets, and from 30th to 31st, with the exception of two small lots. Its area is 600 by 300 feet. Although many parishes have planned to construct schools and · have been unable to build becaµse of OPA refusal of the necessary permits, Our Lady of Angels parish has secured buildings suitable for use as a school already constructed and in operation at a price considered reasonable. The sc)1ool will serve the need for high school education facilities for girls in all the territory south and west of Our Lady of Angeles church.
