If you are a pet owner with a PlayStation 4,
The Last Guardian is a necessity.
Chances are you will have heard of this
game at some point over the last couple of
years – it was originally announced at E3
in 2009. Following a bumpy development,
director Fumito Ueda finally got the chance
to release his game last month, and it can
only be described as infuriating. Don't get us
wrong, it's a wonderful tale of companionship and hope, in which
a young boy befriends Trico the Winged Cat-Dog beast. But as
any pet owner knows, taming an animal can be a frustrating task.
Playing as the boy, you must use a series of controls to point
Trico in the right direction, and gain his trust by feeding him
barrels of food. If you're riding on his back and he decides to go
the wrong way, you're in it for the long haul. But you stick at it in
the hope that by the end of this journey, you will have gained a
loyal companion – and a sizeable vet bill, no doubt.
It's somewhat of a miracle that The Last Guardian is even
sitting in front of us ready to be played, but if there's one thing
all those delays taught us, it's patience – and you'll need a
bucketload of it to get through this one. Good luck – it's worth it.
