In the early 1950s much of the land area in Laropi (Dufile Sub county) was covered
by adequate tree cover such as Acacia, combrentum and fig species. Because of this,
some landing sites were named after the abundance of the vegetation (for example
Congo). From 1979 to 1986 the local population was driven into exile and when they
returned, their way of life had changed. Between 1990 and 2000, there was a boom
