Winery Overview
In 1997, Fattoria Resta’s winemaker, Anna Lisa Tempestini, and her husband decided to plant vineyards on the
property that surrounds their home, a monastery built in 1573 for which the wine is named. The winery was founded
in 2000 and the first vintage produced in 2004. With only six acres under vine, the winery makes the most of their
yields by staying true to the character of the Sangiovese grape.
Location of Vineyard
Fattoria Resta is located in the small, agricultural town of Buonconvento in the province of Siena. The winery
produces only one limited production wine - Martin del Nero, made from 100% Sangiovese. Martin del Nero is named
for the head mason who built the historic monastery that is home to Fattoria Resta. His final act after finishing the
building in 1573 was to carve a prayer in the cellar wall to promote “GOOD WINE.”
Winemaking Philosophy
Anna Lisa is dedicated to making wine that reflects the natural characteristics of the Sangiovese grape without
being overpowered by the aromas and flavor of wood. And, because she produces only one wine, she believes it
should be elegant and able to age for a few years. Her process preserves the freshness of the fruit, resulting in a
wine that is drinkable and fresh, while full bodied. Everything is done by hand, from summer and winter pruning
to harvesting. Her wine is profoundly linked to the place where it is made, to the people who make it and to the
Sangiovese grape, with its strong character and rich, embracing structure.
