Milk andmilkproducts—Determinationof calcium, copper,
iron,magnesium,manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium
and zinccontents - Inductive coupledplasma atomicemission
spectrometricmethod (ICP-AES)
WARNING—
Theuseof this International Standardmay involvehazardousmaterials, operations
and reagents. This standard does not propose to address all the safety problems associated with its
use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish safety and health practices and
determine the applicabilityof regulatory limitationsprior touse.
1 Scope
This International Standard specifies an inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometricmethod for
the determination of calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and
zinc contents inmilk andmilk products.
Themethod is applicable formilk, driedmilk, cheese, whey, driedwheyand infant formula.

mass fraction of substances determinedby theprocedure specified in this International Standard.
NOTE
The contents of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium are expressed in gram per kilogram.
Those for copper, iron, manganeseand zinc are expressed inmilligram per kilogram.
4 Principle
The organic matter is decomposed by dry ashing or by wet digestion using nitric acid in a pressurized
microwave assisted wet digestion system or any appropriate instrumentation in wet digestion. In case of dry
