9.3.2.2 External calibrationmethod
Aspirate the calibration solutions (9.3.2.1) in ascending order separately into the plasma and measure the
emissionof the element to bedetermined.
9.3.2.3 Measurement of test solution
Measure the number of counts at the selectedwavelength of the test solution (9.3.1) and the blank test (9.3.1)
immediately after the calibration measurements under the same conditions. Dilute (dilution factor

) the test
solution if its signal is above that of the highest standard, with the zeromember. Repeat themeasurements. In
order to check for any drift during themeasurement, perform at least one calibrating solution for each element
at the end of series. Some instrumentswill have an internal standardadded on line to correct for the drift.
