With over 60 years' experience in the manufacture and design of rotating machinery
for the production of steel ropes, the Spanish company Caballé provides the steel
wire industry with double twist stranders, tubular stranders, bow skip stranders and
planetary stranders and closers.
The existing range of tubular closers has been extended to accommodate 1,250mm
reels, and all models have been upgraded using the latest technology in rotating and
closing equipment.
A typical closing line is composed of a central payoff for the steel or textile core,
a tubular closer for 8 reels (to close ropes of 6 or 8 strands), a pre-former, a closing
station, a double wheel capstan and a take-up.
If required, the line can be supplied with a greasing unit, a compression roller unit or
with a post-former.
The company’s efforts have been focused in the design of the tubular closer and
pre-former. The largest tubular closer manufactured is for reels of 1,250mm diameter
and can close steel ropes of up to 60mm of finished rope diameter. The maximum
rotating speed is 350rpm.
The main features of the biggest tubular closer are said to be:
Longer tubes (two reels between supports) and very soft deviation angles to reduce •
the twisting forces
Improved Gesadur underrollers system to allow high speed and low maintenance •
Upgraded double reel braking system with full strand tension control, constant •
from full to empty reel
Wire path made of special hard steel for low friction •
Rotating speed said to be up to ten times faster than traditional closers •
