Open die forgings
SANGHVI’S free forging plant is now in
operation and the company claims it is
one of the most modern in India.
Sanghvi has gained considerable
experience with closed die forgings in all
steels over the years. New opportunities
are offered to international customers,
with back-up offered from a dedicated
technical and commercial team.
As well as the existing forging press
– with an installed capacity of 3,600MT
per year – the recently commissioned
four-column 4,500TF hydraulic press is
now in operation. The manipulator, on a
20m track, can handle 60MT of hot ingots
during forging. Five car bottom furnaces
have been installed for heat treatment
facilitation. The newly installed capacity
allows for the forging of up to 40MT under
strict quality inspection and third-party
surveillance. The infrastructure is ready
for a capacity of 15,000MT per year.

High-precision geometry control
THE precise
manufacturing of
single components is crucial for the
optimal functioning of a system. The
smallest deviations must be quickly
recognised and corrected. Monitoring
manufacturing processes by means
of the latest measuring systems
represents a key issue for quality
assurance.
The
measurement
of
single
component geometry can be performed
with the ‘Geometry-Control-System’
GKS high-precision optical geometry
measuring system. At first glance the
operator notices if the dimensions of
the workpiece are still within the given
tolerances, so he can quickly respond
to the deviation by readjusting the
manufacturing process or by stopping
it. By doing so, it is ensured that the
given tolerances are maintained, scrap
is avoided and the manufacturing
process is optimised. Depending on
the workpiece size, the measuring
system can be mounted with up to four
cameras. The measuring and work-
holding device can be individually
adapted to the operational requirements
and the different sizes of workpiece to
be measured. A wide range of items
can be measured, including diameters,
ovality, eccentricity and wall thickness.
