The Berlin International School is a private, non-profit organisation serving some 1.000 students,
the largest private school in Berlin. It consists of five individual branches, each of them working
independently. All subjects at the bilingual B.I.S. are taught in German or in English and are
offered to children from the age 3 to 18. The program starts with a nursery school and kindergarten
for children aged 3 to 5. The elementary school, middle school and high school cover all age levels
up to the age of 18. Special language programs in English and/or German as a second language
will be offered at each level.
B.I.S. describes itself the following way: B.I.S. considers learning to be a life-long process. School
is seen as an opportunity to offer students a wide-range of learning experiences, including not only
academic skills but also the promotion of independence, understanding and tolerance, cultural
identity, creativity and a sense of community. Social and emotional development and the promotion
of intellectual, personal and physical abilities are central to the B.I.S. concept.
The B.I.S. is a member of the VDP
(Bundesverband Deutscher Privatschulen)
and member in the
ECIS (European Council of International Schools) and has applied for membership in the
International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
