The WA Branch

held a successful student speed working

event in early December. This was the third year of the event

and as in previous years, it was a success from the get-go.

The event continued with the same light-hearted speed-

dating or speed networking format with students having

around 10 minutes at each table before transitioning. Over

40 students rotated between tables covering topics including

private practice, securing your first job, research opportunities

and career journeys. Members of the WA profession were

invited to speak on these topics at each table and answer

new graduate questions. Preliminary feedback revived on the

evening was positive with new graduates and speakers saying

how interesting and enjoyable the experience was. Thank you

again to our guest speakers for their generosity in sharing their

knowledge and experiences and contributing to the ongoing

success of this event.

The Branch AGM was held on 7 December following the

student speed networking event. A wonderful attendance of

over 70 members ensured this continues to be a very well-

attended event on the WA calendar. The achievements of

the WA Branch were celebrated. An overview of progress to

date on strategic plan projects was provided with exciting

events flagged for 2016. This included the Consumer Forum

on 2 March which will scope interest in establishing a parent

led advocacy/support group for children with SLI. Successful

events included the Research and Wine Night, the launch of

Speech Pathology Week and representation at expos were all

members bring through their community fundraising and

student events.

The achievements of students and educators were celebrated

in an awards ceremony. Congratulations to all award

recipients.

the WA Branch Executive of 2015 for their dynamic,

energetic contributions and hard work that led to so

many achievements within the Branch. Farewell to our
