The countries administering Non-Self-Governing Territories also agreed to
help work toward these rights in their colonies and territories—sometimes
a large and difficult task.
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT ’S ROLE
Eleanor Roosevelt, the wife of U.S. President
Franklin Roosevelt, played an important role
in the drafting and adoption of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights. In fact, Mrs.
Roosevelt, who was a U.S. delegate to the UN
Commission on Human Rights, said it was her
greatest achievement.
